Saying goodbye to the agricultural show season for another year

There is something special about the agricultural show season. Amid the pressures and demands of farming and rural business, it gives us all an opportunity to get together, catch up and enjoy being part of a community that is built on strong relationships.

It has certainly been a busy summer for our agriculture and landed estates team. From the Lincolnshire Show and Great Yorkshire Show to the Driffield Show and Ryedale Shows, we have enjoyed getting out and about across the region.

For me, the best part of the show season is always the people. It has been wonderful to catch up with so many clients, contacts and friends from across the farming and rural community. Some conversations have been about the opportunities and challenges facing the sector, while others have simply been a chance to say hello and find out how people are getting on. Both are equally valuable.

Those conversations matter because agriculture has always been about relationships. Many of the farmers, landowners and rural businesses our team advises are people we have known and worked alongside for many years, sometimes across generations. Taking the time to understand their families, businesses, land and longer term ambitions means we can support them in a way that goes far beyond dealing with an individual legal matter.

The shows also give us a valuable opportunity to hear first hand what is happening across the sector. Farming and landed estates continue to face significant change, and no two businesses or families will approach those challenges in quite the same way. Whether the conversation is about succession, diversification, the future of an estate or changing commercial pressures, understanding the bigger picture is an important part of providing practical, specialist advice.

Of course, the shows are also a chance to step away from the desk, enjoy the atmosphere and spend time with the people who make the rural community what it is.

As another agricultural show season comes to an end, I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who stopped to see us, shared a conversation or simply said hello this summer. Thanks must also go to the organisers, exhibitors and everyone behind the scenes who put so much work into making these events happen. It has been a fantastic summer of shows and a real pleasure to be part of them.

For now, it is goodbye to the agricultural shows for another year. I am already looking forward to seeing everyone again in 2027.
