Gavin Farquhar
Profile
Gavin has wide and varied experience of marine and shipping work especially in the Energy sector. He has extensive expertise in charterparties (including BIMCO Supplytime and Windtime), the sale and purchase of vessels, vessel construction and floating production storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) service agreements.
Gavin has been involved in shipping work since the inception of the offshore oil industry to the UK. Gavin has acted for developers of and vessel suppliers to offshore wind projects, oil field operators and supply companies, commercial fishing businesses, ferry companies, port authorities and multipurpose ship charterers and owners. His long experience of the Falkland Islands and its fishing and hydrocarbons industries is unique. Other geographical areas featuring in his business are Ireland, West Africa and the Middle East especially in relation to the purchase of vessels (second hand and new build). Shipbuilding contracts and charterparties for vessels destined for work on Offshore Wind projects, including vessels with hybrid engines, have been an area of significant growth recently.
Gavin’s experience includes advising on port developments in Scotland and the Falkland Islands. Gavin is dual Scots and English law qualified and has been for many years.
Falkland Islands
Andrew Jackson has a long history of acting regularly for clients in the Falkland Islands including, on occasions, the Falkland Islands Government. This area of expertise was further strengthened by Gavin joining the firm as a partner in 2024. Gavin set up the first independent legal practice in the Falkland Islands and has a depth and breadth of experience and expertise in Falkland Islands law.
Some of the areas in which Gavin has assisted clients in relation to the Falkland Islands include (but are not limited to) maritime and commercial fisheries, oil and gas exploration, ports, transport and infrastructure.
Gavin has many contacts in the Falkland Islands especially in the private and professional sector, but also amongst the Legislative Assembly and wider professional networks. Alongside his colleagues in our international team, Gavin provides his clients with tailored advice, insight and introductions to key operators throughout the Falkland Islands.
